Anterior root of lateral meniscus
Radix anterior menisci lateralis
Definition
The anterior root of the lateral meniscus is a dense fibrous structure that anchors the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus to the tibial plateau.
It inserts on the anterolateral aspect of the tibial plateau, just anterior and lateral to the tibial attachment of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The root fibers are divided into central, dense attachments and peripheral, supplemental attachments. The central attachment is located deeply beneath the ACL, with a significant portion of the root overlapping the ACL tibial footprint—on average, about 63% of the root attachment area is overlapped by the ACL attachment.
