Calcaneocuboid ligament
Ligamentum calcaneocuboideum
- Related terms: Calcaneocuboid ligament (Bifurcate ligament)
Definition
The calcaneocuboid ligament is most accurately described as the calcaneocuboid part of the bifurcate ligament, which is a key stabilizer of the lateral midfoot.
The bifurcate ligament originates from the anterior process of the calcaneus and divides into two distinct bands: the calcaneonavicular ligament (medially) and the calcaneocuboid ligament (laterally). The calcaneocuboid ligament courses from the anterior process of the calcaneus to the dorsal aspect of the cuboid, lying deep to the extensor digitorum brevis and extensor hallucis brevis muscles, and is situated beneath the dorsal calcaneocuboid ligament.
