Definition
The posterior tympanic canaliculus (also known as the canaliculus for chorda tympani) is a thin bony canal located in the posterior part of the temporal bone. It permits the passage of the chorda tympani, a branch of the facial nerve (VII), from the facial canal to the tympanic cavity. The canaliculus opens into the tympanic cavity between the tympanic sulcus and the pyramidal eminence of the stapedius muscle.
