Iliopubic tract

Tractus iliopubicus

  • Synonym: Deep crural arch

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The iliopubic tract (Deep crural arch) is a band of fascial thickening of the transversalis fascia that lies on the posterior aspect of the inguinal region. The iliopubic tract runs deep and parallel to the inguinal ligament. Medially, it attaches to the superomedial part of the pubic bone, while laterally, its fibers fan out within the fascia transversalis and fascia iliaca without any bony attachment to the iliac spines.

In some subjects this structure is not very prominently marked, and not infrequently it is altogether wanting.
