Inferior fascia of pelvic diaphragm
Fascia inferior diaphragmatis pelvis
- Eponym: Waldeyer's fascia
Definition
The inferior fascia of the pelvic diaphragm is a subcutaneous fascia which, in the area of the anterior perineum, covers the superficial muscles of the urogenital triangle: superficial transverse muscles of the perineum, ischio-cavernous, bulbo-spongy and, in women, constrictor of the vulva.
It fits laterally on the inferior border of the ischiopubic branches, continues forward with the clitoral envelope and attaches posteriorly, in the midline, to the central fibrous nucleus of the perineum. Its posterior border goes around the superficial transverse muscles to unite with the posterior border of the middle fascia.
