Rectosacral fascia
Fascia rectosacralis
Definition
The rectosacral fascia is a dense, tough fascia in the retrorectal space that originates from the presacral fascia at the level of the sacral vertebrae S2 to S4, and extends caudally to join the mesorectal fascia (rectal visceral fasica) approximately 3-5 cm above the anorectal junction.
The rectosacral fascia attaches the mesorectum and the rectum to the presacral fascia and divides the retrorectal space into superior and inferior compartments
