Intermetatarsal spaces

Spatia interossea metatarsi

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The intermetatarsal spaces are located between the metatarsal bones.

For some authors, the intermetatarsal spaces are only the anatomical regions located in the forefoot between the metatarsal heads. These spaces are divided into two levels by the deep transverse metatarsal ligament (DTML) : the superior level contains the synovial bursa, the plantar and dorsal interosseous muscles and tendons, and the collateral ligament complexes of the metatarsophalangeal joints. The inferior level contains the lumbrical muscles and neurovascular bundles.[1]
