Intermuscular septum

Septum intermusculare

Definition

Antoine Micheau & Muhammad A. Javaid

An intermuscular septum is a sheet of deep fascia that extends inward from the investing fascia to attach to bone, separating muscles into functional compartments. Each septum provides surface area for muscle attachment and helps contain the spread of infection or fluid within a compartment.

The septa might extend into a muscle to split it into different parts, like the intermuscular septum of the erector spinae muscle.
