The lateral talocalcaneal ligament is a short, strong fasciculus that originates from the lateral process of the talus and inserts onto the lateral surface of the calcaneus, running nearly parallel and just inferior to the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and calcaneofibular ligament (CFL).(in some cases, lateral talocalcaneal ligament is only a branch from the CFL).
