Medial process of calcaneal tuberosity

Processus medialis tuberis calcanei

Definition

The medial process of calcaneal tuberosity refers to the medial protrusion of the calcaneal tuberosity on the underside or the sole of the foot.

Remember that the calcaneal tuberosity, located on the underside, is the front extension of the lower part of the posterior surface of the heel bone. It consists of bony projections on the medial and lateral sides, known as the medial and lateral processes. A V-shaped notch separates these processes. The medial process serves as the origin for the abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis muscles. Additionally, it provides attachment for the plantar aponeurosis.
