Medial vestibular nucleus
Nucleus vestibularis medialis
- Eponym: Nucleus of Schwalbe
Definition
The medial vestibular nucleus is a terminal nucleus located lateral to the sulcus limitans that receives afferents from the ampullary crest and the maculae of saccule and utricle. Its efferents travel billaterally in the medial longitudinal fasciculus to nuclei of the extraocular muscles, Cajal's interstitial nucleus, and into the spinal cord.
