Definition

Antoine Micheau

The posterior cecal artery is a branch of the ileocolic artery that supplies blood to the posterior aspect of the cecum.

According to angiographic studies, the posterior cecal artery can have variable origins. In some cases, it originates directly from the ileal artery, while in others, it may arise from the right colic artery or the ileocolic artery.
