Definition

The posterior gray commissure refers to that part of spinal area X or the central intermediate substance, which is situated behind the central canal of the spinal cord. It interconnects the posterior or dorsal horns of gray matter–of the right and left spinal halves–with each other.

Both anterior and posterior gray commissures together constitute the spinal area X or the central intermediate substance of spinal cord. The latter then continues laterally to form the lateral intermediate substance of spinal cord.
