Posterior paracentral gyrus

Gyrus paracentralis posterior

Definition

The posterior part of the paracentral lobule is known as the posterior paracentral gyrus. This gyrus is formed by the inner part of the postcentral gyrus which extends to the medial surface of cerebral hemisphere. It belongs to the parietal lobe and represents the primary sensory areas for the leg region.

The posterior paracentral gyrus is bounded at the front by the central sulcus, which extends towards the inner part of the cerebral hemisphere. At the back, it is bounded by the marginal sulcus, which is curved posterior extension of the cingulate sulcus on the medial side of cerebral hemisphere.
