Right sternal part of diaphragm

Pars sternalis dextra diaphragmatis

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The sternal part of the diaphragm is one of the three main segments of the muscle of right hemidiaphragm (others are the costal and lumbar parts).

The sternal part of the diaphragm originates from the posterior surface of the xiphoid process of the sternum by two fleshy slips. It consists of muscle fibers that extend posteriorly and laterally to insert into the central tendon of the diaphragm.
