Temporal line

Linea temporalis

Definition

Running upward and backward from the zygomatic bone, there’s a noticeable ridge or line known as the temporal line. This line splits into two parts: the superior and inferior temporal lines. They both extend upwards and backwards passing through the frontal bone and curve back across the parietal bone. The temporal lines form the front and top boundaries of the temporal fossa on the skull’s side. The superior temporal line is where the temporal fascia attaches, while the inferior temporal line indicates the upper extent of the origin of the temporalis muscle.
