Triangular ligament
Ligamentum triangulare
Definition
The triangular ligament of the extensor mechanism of the hand is a thin fibrous sheet that spans the two lateral bands across the dorsum of the middle phalanx to the terminal extensor tendon and prevents volar translation of the lateral bands during PIP joint flexion.
Injury of the triangular ligament results in the boutonnière deformity.
