Extensor digitorum communis tendon

Tendo musculi extensoris communis digitorum

  • Acronym: EDC
  • Related terms: Extensor digitorum - Tendon

Definition

The tendon of extensor digitorum communis (EDC) trifurcates at the proximal phalanx to form a central slip and two flanking lateral slips. Central slip inserts on the base of the middle phalanx. Two lateral slips join with two lateral bands (formed by interossei and lumbrical tendons) to form conjoint lateral bands in region of the proximal interphalangeal joint. Conjoint lateral bands continue distally and merge proximal to their insertion on base of distal phalanx to form terminal extensor tendon (TET)
