The two lateral slips of the tendon of extensor digitorum communis (EDC) begin at the trifurcation of the extensor digitorum communis tendon (EDC) at proximal phalanx and join with two interosseous lateral bands (formed by interossei and lumbrical tendons) to form conjoint lateral (or collateral) bands in the region of the proximal interphalangeal joint.
