Interosseous lateral bands

Definition
The interosseous lateral bands are composed of the lumbrical and interossei tendons volar to the axis of the MCP joint; the bands cross dorsal to the axis of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint and join the lateral slips to form the conjoint lateral bands in region of proximal interphalangeal joint.
This allows the intrinsic muscles to flex the MCP joint and extend the interphalangeal (IP) joints.
