Accessory pancreas

Pancreas accessorium

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The accessory pancreas refers to an additional, often small and separate mass of pancreatic tissue that is anatomically distinct from the main pancreas. It is most commonly located near the duodenum or stomach and can contain both exocrine and endocrine components. Though usually asymptomatic and incidental, it may sometimes play a minor role in digestive function or, in rare cases, become pathologically significant (e.g., through inflammation or neoplasia).
