Anatomic humeral axis

  • Acronym: aHA

Definition

Stephan Mahler

The anatomical humeral axis is a landmark used to assess angular deformities of the humerus and provide indications for their correction. It is determined from a craniocaudal radiograph or a multiplanar reconstruction of the humerus.

The anatomical humeral axis in the frontal plane is the line that joins :

- the center of the humeral shaft, at 20% of its total length

- the middle of the distal humeral joint orientation line in the frontal plane
