Elbow rotational position
Elbow rotational position
- Acronym: ERP
Definition
The elbow rotational position is a landmark used for standardization of straight positioning of the canine humerus in the frontal plane. It is determined from a cranio-caudal radiograph of the humerus.
The elbow rotational position is reported as a percentage and is obtained by dividing the distance between the medial epicondyle of the humerus and the medial border of the olecranon, and the humeral transepicondylar distance multiplied by 100.
The elbow rotational position for acceptable straight positionning equals 45.4 +/- 4.6 % and 43.7 +/- 4.6 % in recumbent and standing Labrador Retrievers respectively.
