Ciliary zonule

Zonula ciliaris

  • Eponym: Zinn

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The ciliary zonule (or Zinn's zonule) is a ring of fibrous threads connecting the ciliary body to the lens. It holds the lens in place and contributes to visual accommodation by enabling the ciliary muscle to modify the shape of the lens.

The ciliary zonule is formed by zonular fibers arranged in a weave that connects the ciliary processes at the anterior and posterior proximities of the equator lentis. These fibers are separated by zonular spaces.
