Definition

The greater tubercle is located on the craniolateral  part of the proximal extremity of the humerus, separated from the head by the neck of humerus. It gives insertion for the muscles of the shoulder blade (infraspinous and supraspinous muscles).

The greater tubercle is divided into cranial and caudal parts in ungulates.
