Digital bones of pes

Ossa digitorum pedis

  • Synonym: Pedal phalanges

Definition

The digital bones of pes (Ossa digitorum pedis) have three phalanges as the ones of the hand, except the thumb, when it exists, that only have two. The latter, particularly voluminous in Men, is on the contrary absent in nearly all domestic animals; it is hardly inconstantly represented in Dogs, where it is very reduced and often double when it exists.
