Dorsolateral caudal [coccygeal] artery

Arteria caudalis [coccygea] dorsolateralis

Definition

Anne-Sophie Emeric

The lateral caudal arteries are located ventrally and dorsally at the level of the transverse processes of the coccygeal vertebrae.

Variation:

In equids, the ventral lateral caudal arteries are hidden by the ventrolateral sacrocaudal muscles and extend to the tip of the tail through robust branches. These give rise to finer branches, which become the dorsal lateral caudal arteries, hidden by the dorsolateral and medial sacrocaudal muscle
