Ventrolateral caudal [coccygea]l artery
Arteria caudalis [coccygea] ventrolateralis
Definition
The lateral caudal arteries are located ventrally and dorsally at the level of the transverse processes of the coccygeal vertebrae.
Variation:
In equids, the ventral lateral caudal arteries are hidden by the ventrolateral sacrococcygeal muscles and extend to the tip of the tail through robust branches. These give rise to finer branches, which become the dorsal lateral caudal arteries, hidden by the dorsolateral and medial sacrococcygeal muscles.
