Intermediate patellar ligament

Ligamentum patellae intermedium

Definition

The intermediate (or middle) patellar ligament is formed by the distal portion of the tendon of insertion of the quadriceps femoris muscle (the patella being the largest sesamoid bone !).

In humans, carnivores, pigs and small ruminants, it is termed single "patellar ligament".
