Right colic vein
Vena colica dextra
Definition
The right colic vein arises within the mesocolon of the ascending colon, collecting blood from the colic loops and adjacent segments of the colon. The vein runs from right to left, coursing cranially or transversely within the mesocolon, paralleling the trajectory of the right colic artery. As it proceeds medially, the right colic vein terminates by draining into the cranial mesenteric vein, often near the origin of the middle colic vein, or into the ileocolic vein (carnivores, pigs).
