Definition

The semicircular canals are three bony semicircular canals, between 0.2 and 0.5 mm in diameter, which contain the three semicircular ducts. They are divided into anterior and lateral (which open into the vestibule from adjacent ends) and posterior semicircular canals. Each canal has a osseous ampullae dilatation at its end.
