The splenic hilum refers to the region on the medial aspect of the spleen where major blood vessels (splenic artery and vein), lymphatic vessels, and nerves enter and exit the organ.
This area is typically concave and serves as the site of attachment for the gastrosplenic ligament, which connects the spleen to the stomach and contains these vessels.
