Trochlea

Trochlea

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The trochlea is a small cartilage attached to the medial wall of the orbit, completing the trochlear fovea which allows the dorsal oblique muscle to reflect by serving as its point of attachment. It is attached to the bony wall by anchoring ligaments formed by a thickening of the periorbita.

Broadly oval in shape, it forms a groove on its medial side through which the dorsal oblique tendon and its surrounding vagina synovialis passes.
