Ventral lateral cartilage of nose
Cartilago nasi lateralis ventralis
Definition
The ventrolateral nasal cartilage of the nose is the rostral extension of the lateral half of the cartilage of the nasal septum. Caudally, its origin runs obliquely upward on the lateral surface of the ventral region of the cartilage of the nasal septum. Compared to the dorsolateral cartilage of the nose, it is slightly shorter and wider. Rostrally, it reaches the apex of the nose and terminates just behind the lateral lamina of the cartilage of the nasal septum, close to where this cartilage connects with the lateral accessory cartilage of the nose.Caudally, it adopts a sigmoid shape in cross-section, curving so that its free edge aligns with that of the dorsolateral cartilage, thus forming the cartilaginous base of the alar fold which extends the ventral nasal concha to the nasal vestibule.
