Anterior ramus of lateral sulcus

Ramus anterior sulci lateralis

  • Related terms: Anterior ramus

Definition

The anterior ramus of lateral sulcus originates from the stem of lateral sulcus. The stem extends outwardly between the frontal and temporal lobes on the inferior surface of the brain and reaches the lateral surface of brain. At this point, the lateral sulcus divides into three branches. The most anterior branch is called the anterior ramus of lateral sulcus, which stretches about 2.5 cm forward into the inferior frontal gyrus. The region of the inferior frontal gyrus beneath the anterior ramus is referred to as the pars orbitalis. The pars orbitalis is separated from the pars triangularis above by the anterior ramus.
