Sulcus carotidis

  • Latin synonym: Sulcus caroticus

Definition

The carotid sulcus is a shallow bony groove found on the side of the body of the sphenoid bone, where it connects with its greater wing. This sulcus exists on both the right and left sides of the sphenoid bone’s body. It acts as a continuation of the carotid canal and lodges the internal carotid artery and the cavernous sinus.
