Intertendinous connection between flexor hallucis longus and flexor digitorum longus tendons
Conexus intertendineus inter tendinum flexori longi digitorum et tendinum flexoris longi halluci
Definition
The intertendinous connection between flexor hallucis longus and flexor digitorum longus tendons consists of a tendinous slip that runs from the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon to the flexor digitorum longus (FDL) tendon in a proximal-to-distal direction at the tendinous intersection of flexor hallucis longus and flexor digitorum longus tendons (Master Knot of Henry).
The FDL passes superficially over the FHL at this site, and the intertendinous slip may contribute to the function of the lesser toes, especially the second and third toes, by transmitting force from the FHL to the FDL tendons.
