Definition
Origin: Occasionally split off from the flexor digiti minimi brevis
Insertion: Distal half of 5th metatarsal
Origin : base of 5th metatarsal bone, long plantar ligament
Insertion: Lateral surface of 5th metatarsal bone
Action: Opposition of 5th toe at 5th metatarsophalangeal joint
Innervation: Lateral plantar nerve (S2 - S3)
Blood supply: Lateral plantar artery
Description: Occasionally a few of the deeper fibers of the Flexor digiti minimi of foot are inserted into the lateral part of the distal half of the fifth metatarsal bone; these are described by some as a distinct muscle termed the Opponens digiti minimi of foot (Opponens digiti quinti.).
