IMAIOS

The inferior (posterior) papillary muscle of right ventricle arises from the inferior aspect of the right ventricular free wall, most often from the middle third, and is usually flat-topped in morphology. It supplies chordae tendineae primarily to the posterior leaflet of the tricuspid valve and may also contribute to the posterior segment of the septal leaflet.

The posterior papillary muscle can be single or multiple, with variable numbers of heads (ranging from one to four), and its mean length is approximately 1.4 cm (though there is significant anatomical variation).
