Definition

IMAIOS

The septal papillary muscles of the right ventricle are small, variable muscular projections arising from the interventricular septum. They anchor the chordae tendineae that attach primarily to the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve, and sometimes also to the anterior leaflet. Their morphology is highly variable: they may be absent, single, multiple, or replaced by tendinous chords.
