Trabecular part of right ventricle

Pars trabecularis ventriculi dextri

  • Synonym: Apical trabecular component of right ventricle

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The trabecular part of the right ventricle refers to the central and apical region of the right ventricular cavity that is characterized by a complex meshwork of muscular ridges and projections known as trabeculae, and contains the papillary muscles. This region is anatomically distinct from the smooth-walled inlet (which contains the tricuspid valve and chordae tendineae) and the outflow tract (infundibulum or conus), which is also smooth-walled.
