Sulcus interventricularis anterior

  • Synonym: Anterior interventricular groove; Anterior longitudinal sulcus

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The anterior interventricular sulcus of the heart is a groove located on the anterior (sternocostal) surface of the heart that marks the external boundary between the right and left ventricles. It extends from the base of the heart near the left atrium and pulmonary trunk, down toward the noch of apex.

This sulcus contains the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, as well as the accompanying great cardiac vein.
