Proximal hamstring tendon
Tendo proximalis musculi ischiocrurales
Definition
The proximal hamstring tendon anatomy involves the origin of the hamstring muscles at the ischial tuberosity. The semitendinosus and the long head of the biceps femoris share a common tendinous origin on the posterolateral aspect of the ischial tuberosity, forming a conjoined tendon. The semimembranosus muscle originates separately from the anterolateral aspect of the ischial tuberosity.[1-4]
The conjoined tendon of the semitendinosus and biceps femoris has an oval footprint, while the semimembranosus has a crescent-shaped footprint. The semimembranosus footprint is located directly anterior to the footprint of the conjoined tendon.[3-4] The sciatic nerve is in close proximity to these structures, lying approximately 1.2 cm from the lateral aspect of the ischial tuberosity, which is a critical consideration during surgical procedures.[1-2]
Note from author : The proximal tendon of the adductor magnus originates from the ischial tuberosity just anterior to the tendon of semimembranous and serves as the proximal insertion of the Ischiocondylar part of adductor magnus (hamstring part) that is similar to the hamstring muscles but do not officialy belong to the harmstring muscle group
