Accessory gluteal line
Linea glutea [glutaea] accessoria
Definition
The ilium presents a concave dorsolateral surface called the gluteal surface. It is crossed by gluteal lines (three in carnivores and one for other domestic animals) for the origin of the gluteal muscles:
The main gluteal lines are:
- Ventral gluteal line: between gluteus medius and profundus in carnivores, between gluteus medius and accessorius in cows and horses
- Caudal gluteal line: ventral border of the gluteus profundus
- Dorsal gluteal line
- Accessory gluteal line: between the gluteus medius and accessorius
