Aggregated lymphoid nodules
Lymphonoduli [Noduli lymphatici] aggregatil
Definition
Aggregated lymphoid nodules are small circular elevations of lymphoid tissue, 1.5-2 cm in size, found in the deep mucosa of the small intestine where they are known as Peyer's Plate. They are also found in the cecum, rectum, anal canal, prepuce and third eyelid.
Aggregated lymphoid nodules differ from lymph nodes in that the lymphatic vessels originate in them instead of passing through them: they therefore contain only efferent lymphatic vessels.
