Communicating branch with lacrimal nerve
Ramus communicans cum nervus lacrimali
Definition
The communicating branch with the lacrimal nerve detaches from the zygomaticotemporal branch of the zygomatic nerve. It joins the lacrimal nerve shortly before its arrival near the lacrimal gland, except in carnivores, where it joins the lacrimal gland directly. It is made up of parasympathetic fibers from the pterygopalatine ganglion combined with sympathetic fibers that control secretion.
