Zygomaticotemporal branch
Ramus zygomaticotemporalis
Definition
The zygomaticotemporal branch is the more dorsal of the two main branches of the zygomatic nerve. It curves towards the zygomatic process of the frontal bone to join the temporal fossa. On its way, the communicating branch with lacrimal nerve is detached. In carnivores, the zygomaticotemporal branch passes through the orbital ligament; in humans, it runs through a small canal in the zygomatic bone. It then crosses the temporal fascia to intermingle its endings with those of other cutaneous nerves in the region.
In ruminants, one branch is particularly well-developed, forming the cornual branch.
