Zygomatic nerve

Nervus zygomaticus

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The zygomatic nerve separates from the maxillary nerve as soon as it leaves the skull. It can pass through the alar canal with the maxillary nerve, or through a small foramen dedicated to it. It enters the periorbita near its apex and is carried rostrally between the periorbit and the lateral rectus. It then splits into two branches: the zygomaticofacial branch and the zygomaticotemporal branch.
