Cranial mediastinum
Mediastinum craniale
Definition
The cranial mediastinum is the portion of the mediastinum located cranial to the heart, between the thoracic inlet and the cranial border of the cardiac silhouette. It contains the trachea, esophagus, thymus (in young animals), and the cranial vena cava.
