Ventral mediastinum
Mediastinum ventrale
Definition
The ventral mediastinum is the portion of the mediastinum located ventral to the heart, between the pericardium and the sternum. It contains the thymus in its cranial part (in young animals) and the phrenicopericardial ligament in the caudal region.
